This is an opportunity for children in grades 3 thru 6 to learn the rules, regulations and skills needed to work as one unit or TEAM. Please note if your child is in 3rd grade be aware many of the towns we play DO NOT have 3rd graders participating in games. Playing time for these children is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of the coaches. All players are furnished with a helmet, shoulder pads, knee, thigh & hip pads, and a practice jersey to keep in their possession during the season. A numbered game jersey will be given to each player on game days and must be returned immediately following the game. Game pants will also be distributed with the game jerseys but will be in your possession until the end of the season. Mouth guards are mandatory and one will be provided by the Rec if needed. Football cleats/shoes are not necessary but highly recommended. Each player is responsible for maintaining their equipment during the season (treat it as if you paid for it with your own money!). Parents/guardians will be billed for any equipment not returned or abused at the end of the season. We ask that at the end of the season girdles pants and jerseys are washed and all equipment returned to the Rec Center in one week of the football season ending. Helmets are sent out shortly after for refurbishing and you will be charged an extra fee if your equipment is returned late. Practices: The 2014 practice schedule is as follows, Tuesdays and Thursday READY to begin practice PROMPLTY at 5:00pm practice ends at 6:30pm. Please drop off players by the Union Arena and enter practice through the baseball field. With High School athletes finishing practice when we start, this should reduce congestion and confusion. Important Things To Remember: If your child is going to be absent from practice or games please communicate this to the coaches. Please understand the importance of every child being at every practice and every game. With the number of participants that we have from year to year one or two children absent can have a drastic effect on the team as a whole. Last but absolutely not least is be prepared to pick up your children from practice PROMPLTY at 6:30pm. The coaches will never leave a child at the field but please understand that our coaches VOLUNTEER a lot of their time for these young athletes so be considerate and be there when practice ends! Games: A schedule of games and directions will be handed out. Parents must provide transportation to all away games. If your child needs transportation to any away game please notify one of the coaches in advance. General Player Rules and Conduct: ~ Every player is expected to attend each and every practice and game unless an illness, injury or personal commitment prevents you from participating. (Notify a coach in advance) ~ Horseplay, foul language and teammate harassment will NOT be tolerated at any time. Our goal is to provide a challenging yet positive experience for all players and coaches involved. ~ Approach every practice and game with a positive attitude and be attentive during all drills. ~ Do not lose your playbook. Study your playbook and learn your assignments for each play. (Please ask for help if you don’t understand a play assignment). We take the responsibility of keeping the players safe seriously. Football is a fast sport with hard equipment that can cause injuries if used improperly. We require that all players LISTEN to the coaches and do as asked. We appreciate parent’s cooperation and support in this effort. We are trying to teach the sport of football, but more important, the responsibilities and fun of team play. This includes respect for our teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and most important, ourselves. We want the players to come away from this experience having learned that a team working together will accomplish much more than a group of individuals. Please feel free to discuss any concerns with any coach early, rather than waiting.
