About the Instructor
Peggy Brightman began singing and dancing at Smith College. After a long professional dance career in Boston, as principal dance with Concert Dance Company, while directing the modern dance program at Walnut Hill School of the Performing Arts, Peg went to New York to pursue a doctoral degree in Arts and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, with studies in visual arts, dance, and arts education.

After some University teaching, Peg moved to Brunswick, Maine in 2001, and founded Moving Spirit Dancers, as intergenerational dance company. Between 2004 and 2012, Brighmans Moving Spirit Dancers, performed widely throughout the Mid Coast area: in 2008, they were featrured in MPBN's 'Incredible Maine'. Brightman also sang with the Merrymeeting Singers, directed by Larry Lemmel. Between 2006 and 2012, these groups collaborated on a number of unique song, dance and poetry productions, including an annual Twelfth Night Fest.

Deeply interested in the exciting synthesis of live performances of song and dance, Brightman's choreography is often accompnied by vocal music: some recent works set a cappella singing include:"Pretty Love" (trad.Shaker song) "Africa" (Billings), "Thou Knowest, Lord" set to the anthem by Henry Purcell, Gershwin's "You're The Top!" and a selection of Elizabethan madrigals.

Peg's resume along with more complete listing of choreography is available upon request.
