Tai chi ch'uan exercises are extremely relaxing and promote a calm, peaceful state. The qi gong movements that are taught in these classes tone muscle, increase flexibility, and are a very effective method for learning to move every part of the body independently. The exercises are gentle, and everybody can do them. The movements are meditative yet also vigorous, as the exercises are based off of the subtle and beautiful movements of animals. This 5000-year-old system of qi gong, which in modern times is referred to as "zookinesis", is a powerful system that helps one to unleash the instinctual vitality of the body. These classes are also an introduction to the Yang form, an 800-year-old series of movements designed to improve balance, body mechanics, and the ability to know where the body is in space. Through practices such as the Yang form and Zookinesis, it is possible to function in a mind-based society while retaining the intelligence and health of the body, and also a distributed awareness throughout one's environment. Feel free to sit down or stand up in these classes. We accommodate and welcome people of all physical levels of ability. The idea is to
become more aware of one's body and how each part of the body moves, which is important for any body-type.
