Yin Yoga

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a gentle, slow paced style of Yoga with postures held for a longer period of time; a passive practice that calms the mind and nervous system, stretching connective tissues around joints. There are variations of seated and supine poses held for longer periods of time. (2-5 minutes) The poses of Yin Yoga are focused are more on exercising connective tissues (tendons, fascia and ligaments), with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A meditative approach to Yoga aims at cultivating awareness and inner silence. Yin Yoga opens the body's meridian system to influence the movement and quality of "Chi", enhancing our health and state of being and state of being. 



                                    

                                                                                

                                                                                  
     
                                                       
   


About the Instructor, Tomoko Liguori
Tomoko grew up in Japan in the ancient town, Kamakura, known for Zen temples. She then came to New York, studied at Columbia University on a master program in art history and literature. Tomoko has been practicing Yoga since 1997. Her teachings. of Yoga focus on a thorough and intelligent application of alignment, a flowing style of Vinyasa with emphasis on alignment and encourage students to find space and body awareness. Tomoko believes Yoga practice is beneficial for everyone, regardless of gender, age or flexibility. Her teaching offers variations enabling students of all levels to expand their practice and disband their boundaries. Tomoko has been teaching Yoga for over 10 years. She has completed the Teacher-Training program ( RYT-200 ) at New York Yoga under primary teacher Michael Gilbert, that focused on a thorough and intelligent application of alignments. In April 2012 Tomoko completed Sonia Yoga for The Special Child, a comprehensive program of Yoga techniques designed to enhance for childen and adults with special needs. Currently she is working towards her Advanced Certification ( RYT-500 )
