Union Arena Community Center is conveniently located on the grounds of the Woodstock Union High School, just 1 1/2 miles west of the Village of Woodstock.

The Arena is committed to providing public skating for the community. The addition of rental skates will allow more people to enjoy skating as well. Please check the monthly schedule for additions or changes to the regular times. There are also camps, clinics and leagues.

Twelve months a year, the Arena is open to rent for any number of uses. It is pre-wired and designed to be a true multi-function facility.

The Union Arena Skating Club will be offering a full range of lessons for youth through adult over a 10 week session starting January 3. Registrations are now being accepted.

The Arena is well-suited to be a great site for birthday parties, whether it is for your child, spouse, or best friend!

After a several year community effort involving Mrs. Marianne Faulkner and many others, the historic Woolhouse was transformed into the Little Theater and was christened in 1950 by a production of Shakespeare's AS YOU LIKE IT by the Woodstock Country School.

As mentioned in Part I, very quickly thereafter a community theater group was formed to take advantage of this wonderful space. The group was known originally as the Woodstock Community Players. Their first show was two one-act plays. One of those plays - THE HAPPY JOURNEY by Thornton Wilder, directed by Charles McCallum - was entered in the state-wide competition and won first place.

Within the first year, the group felt they wanted a more interesting name. They sponsored a community-wide contest to rename the group. The winning name, submitted by Miss Nutting of Reading, was The Woolhouse Players. In the 50+ years since, there have been many people involved with the Woolhouse Players (which eventually evolved into the New Woolhouse Players). There have been many shows done in the Little Theater. I am in the process of compiling a list as complete as possible.

I wish to report that NWP has donated the scrapbook which Betty Kodess gave to us and which sparked this series of articles to the Woodstock Historical Society where it is in safer hands. Anyone with programs or pictures of past shows, I would love to hear from you (Janet Eller - 457-1110).
